A circle of people who are learning the same thing makes the work less lonely and more honest.

Self-paced learning is kind to a full calendar. It is also easy to abandon. A community is not a comment thread for its own sake. It is a place to say the work out loud.
Explaining a concept to another learner is a test. If you cannot say it simply, you do not have it yet. Facilitation is the skill of making that conversation possible without turning it into a lecture.
A huge forum hides the people who need a reply. A small group with a prompt, a time, and a close is enough. Empty seats in a circle still mark that someone is expected.
We can publish the course. You still need people nearby, online or in a room, who care that you finished the next lesson.
